Best lunch place in Ames. Love the Vegetarian menu. I can‘t get enough of their sandwiches!

Recently talking to the management, I found out they cure and cook from scratch: salami,pepperoni,corned beef,pastrami,roast beef,and chicken. Not to mention all the house made sauces and salads. Is there another Deli anywhere that anyone has even heard of that does all that?

Best sandwiches in town by FAR!! This is the place to eat ladies and gentlemen! I‘ve been a regular here for 3 years now and frequent it 1-3 times every week! You get tons of fresh, local, made from scratch food at a sweet price! Try it out, for real!

I‘m not a vegetarian, but I LOVE the blackened tofu sandwich here! Everything always tastes fresh, and I can get a side and a drink on a budget for only about $7. I come here often between classes, it‘s a short walk from campus and I bring a lot of fresh faces and vegan friends here! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants good, affordable, fresh food and especially to vegetarians.

I agree, more advertising would be highly beneficial.

I thought it was funny that when I searched for West Street Deli an add for Jimmy Johns popped up and hardly any info or description about West st. The deli doesn‘t even look the same as the picture. Don‘t the owners know they can post new and real info about their restaurant? For all their lack of advertising this is by far the best deli and one of the best restauraunts in Ames. I just think they should spread the word better. I think it‘s insulting to have an add for such a pathetic place like jj on the same page as this Deli. The specials they have are out of this world!! The portions are huge for the money. I found out they use alot of organic stuff and cook tuna steaks just for tuna salad, cook their own roast beef, chicken, egg salad etc, they make virtually everything from scratch. You can‘t compare it to any chain restauraunt. The only problem I have is that they don‘t seem to care about advertising, They probably don‘t know this site.
But by chance that they do, my advise, ADVERTISE!!

I have been a regular at West Street for many years, I know for a fact that they have a loyal customer base although some are uninformed idiots like the last person that wrote in.
I have never had a problem that they weren‘t happy to take care of. The food is allways above average and homemade. I‘m not a vegetarian so I don‘t know about your tofu problem but I do know that they still have homemade hotsauces and the restroom (singular) is very clean as is the dinning area.
Unless they are too busy to clean during peak hours, a problem that proves they are the best!!!

This place is so- so at best. If you are vegetarian they have a few options for you which is nice(If the tofu is properly stocked which it rarely is.) Prices are a bit high, service can be inattentive and slow, and it seems as though it is under new management which has taken away one of their best features- homemade hot sauces.
Dining area is small and often dirty. Restrooms are uncleanly.

To the last person... they still have homemade hot sauce. It‘s killer! You just have to ask for it on your sandwich. I know what you mean about that girl... but she‘s not there anymore, so no worries. I have eaten there for over 5 years, obviously they have had many different people working there some nice, some not as nice but the food seems to keep getting better.

This place used to be much better, when the tattooed folks ran the counter. They had these great homemade hot sauces, that the new owner decided to destroy. The sandwiches are good, but don‘t you dare try to alter something on the pre-fabricated menu. The counter girl will give the rolling of the eyes, and butcher the sandwich at your expense.

The specials are wonderful. A full-size sandwich gets you the really good bread.

By far the best Deli sandwiches in Ames! Great for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The price is right and the food is great.

This is by far the best sandwich shop in Ames. I used to stop here twice a week after class. Glad to see it‘s still open since graduating 8 years ago! I make it a point to stop here whenever I come into town.

West Street Deli is absolutely delicious but their staff is completely rude. I was verbally disrespected by the sandwich skank and will complain.

In central Iowa there is no better sandwich shop. There food is absolutely delicious. I now live in Des Moines, but I will drive up to Ames every now and again for their sandwiches. I highly reccomend West Street deli to whoever wants a great sandwich.

Always try their specials; they are fantastic; also the Greek with chicken (which is cooked on premise) is perhaps the ticket to sandwitch nirvana. Great cookies too; especially the chocolate chip and M&M‘s!

I go here more than three times a month, and it‘s never disapointed me. You can make as healthy or as fatty a sandwitch as you‘d like. They‘lll always tell you exactly what they put in their sauces (most are made on site) so there is little guess work. Everything is fresh and as natural as possible. No hidden high frutose corn syrup here! great price for a fantastic meal. Always try the special sandwitch, they are pretty fantastic themselves.

It‘s great to have a place that still has quality food for reasonable$. The recent crew they have is fast and polite, I heard Drew doesn‘t work there anymore, now the original owner is back. I think he‘s the short guy, he seems very friendly and the food is better than ever.

I love West Street Deli so much I have to get one of everything when I‘m there... sandwich, soup, dessert... And definitely get the whole sandwich because you‘ll be disappointed if you don‘t.

Stopped there at least twice a week during college - the BEST sandwiches you‘ll find in Ames. They also have great chili in the winter. Must try!

2nd best cafe I‘ve ever been too...

go to stomping grounds if you want to munch on the usual cliche overpriced french cuisine...

but if you want unique and tastefull sandwiches at a good price go to west street hands down.

This place is happiness! The best sandwiches ever. The service isn‘t the greatest but you will be rewarded with extra delicious food.
The meat is not frozen, they don‘t even have a freezer big enough to fit meat, and all of the meat and cheese is sliced fresh daily. The cookies, brownies, soups, sauces, etc. are made by Drew and they are perfectly created. Really, their stuff is the freshest you can get so people need to stop complaining.

if i could eat there everyday, i would. it pants down, spanks all the other places in ames. and yeah, drew‘s awesome. and most of the people that work there i know what i want when i walk in the door. if you disagree, you should probably cut yourself.

yeah, he is, but your not gonna eat him, or maybe you would. Your probably a dick too. Everybody reuses cheese cake dumbass, it doesnt go bad if its refrigerated, plus ive never seen a cookie go bad either. if you dont like it then dont eat there, you probably would rather eat subway anyway, oh yeah and the meat isnt frozen.

Great place, a much better set up now that they moved the order counter. I‘ve found the service to be perfectly friendly, today they remembered I like my tuna on sourdough extra toasty before I requested it. :)

The first time I ate at West St. I wanted to crawl into bed with my sandwich......amazing! This place is all about healthy portions, good service, and unique taste. If you want to make your loins burn I urge you to try it.
