My favorite place to eat in Ames! I come here almost every week - even when I lived out of state, I would come at least twice a month to Ames. Great food, just as good as a homemade meal - plus a nice variety of peppers and spices you can add to your meal to give it a nice kick. Yes the prices have increased (they are trying to survive in this tough economy as well), but it‘s still half the cost of Thai Spice and it tastes a lot better.

The best thai food in Ames! Great prices too! Will visit again.

Tasty, well-prepared food. Great value for price!!

Terrific Thai food and great prices! I have eaten at pricey Thai restaurants in large cities that don‘t have as good of food as Thai Kitchen and you spend four times as much money. Love this place!!! Owners are very nice also.

Like a previous writer, this place is what got me excited about Thai food. The food is alway good.

Best Thai food I ever had.
I go there once a week for about 4 years and they are always very friendly. They only take cash (there are two ATMs close by).
The portions are big and delicious.

Thai Kitchen began my love of thai food. Two drawbacks are that they only take cash and their menu descriptions can be (unintentionally) deceptive. Make sure you know exactly what the item you‘re ordering is, unless you don‘t mind being surprised.

The menu is extensive - you can get just about anything you want. The pad thai and pad see eil are both amazing. Siamese crab delight and steamed dumplings are great appetizers. You get A LOT of food for your money! They make it fresh when you order it. I love this place and go back often. Only downside is they only take cash, but it is worth a stop at the ATM on the way!

Delicious variety of thai cuisine, including vegetarian fare.. Relaxed, laid back atmosphere with top quality foods!

Food is amazing! Much better than the spice.

Great food though a slightly more expensive. The owners are perfect opposites, the old man is nice and friendly while the old lady who runs the place acts as though shes very annoyed by some customers and is often rude. Wouldn‘t go there if it weren‘t for their food.

I don‘t understand how this place is in the top 3?
It is way way too over priced.
I wont waste my time with a long review on this dump. Bottom line is if you don‘t care about price, quality, and portion size then eat here you wont know the difference anyway.

great food on reasonable price. But it‘s wierd that it doesn‘t serve the soup on dinner.

Consider this. When one eats at Thai Kitchen for lunch, a plate is served with rice and dish on the same plate. A cup of soup is given to all (non-vegetarian), unless you say otherwise, at which time a few pieces of lettuce forms a salad, and there is your lunch. If you go a few hours later, after the lunch period, your plate is filled with your dish, and the rice is on an additional plate. So, you are in essence receiving double the food. And here is the kicker: at least when I have gone, the prices have been the same. Less food, same price. Now, I have not ordered from the "lunch" menu. And while the prices seem reasonable, you must ask reasonable to what? Thai Kitchen is quickly approaching The Spice in price. Raising prices, while ripping off the lunch crowd? A fine way to conduct business.

The best quick Thai restaurant around. Food is very good and service is quick.

while the menu has "vegetarian options"... they are NOT vegetarian. Please beware. The curries/stir fried dishes use either fish sauce or oyster sauce. And the sauces are from packages-so they can‘t take it out.

The family that owns Thai Kitchen is extremely friendly and always make us feel welcome. My wife and I eat here every week. Their food is amazing and is very reasonably priced. I don‘t know what we would do without a place this terrific to get our weekly fix of Thai curry!!!

We eat here weekly. Amazing food and friendly service. Very reasonable priced too.

This place has never disappointed us and we have been eating here since it opened!! Definitely a 5 - star place, as all the reviews here show, despite the overall rating being 3 stars for some odd reason!!!

Best overall place to eat in Ames. Unbelievable Thai food. Best I‘ve ever had hands down. I recommend anything I‘ve had on their menu, but my personal fav is yellow curry, fried rice with pork. Yum!

Thai Kitchen is a quaint, charming, authentic Thai restaurant that is winning my heart more and more each time I eat there. The decor is very cafeteria-like, but the food is wonderful, the prices quite reasonable and the staff is very nice. They‘ve got me hooked!

I love hole in the wall restaurants. Thai Kitchen has wonderful food and the owners are always so nice to our kids. When I visited Ames in 2003 trying to decide if we should move here, I ate at Thai Kitchen. It was one of those positive marks in favor or Ames. The Pad Ka Prow with beef is great!

Ames‘ original Thai restaurant. One of my favorite places to stop and eat in Ames. A lot less upscale or trendy than Spice in decor the food here meets or often exceeds what you will get downtown for less money.
March 11, 2008

good place with excellent foods I eat there almost every week I love noodle no.3 and fried banana!
February 25, 2008

My favorite restaurant in Ames. I eat there every week and sometimes twice a week...and I don‘t live in Ames. The decor is nothing fancy but the food is outstanding and an excellent value. I love lunch special #7 and get it almost every time I‘m there. The staff is very friendly and greets me with a smile every time I‘m there.

One of my top three favorite places to eat in Ames (and I eat in restaurants ALOT haha). Good prices, adorable staff, clean, DELICIOUS. I usually get the Masumum(sp?) shrimp curry or pad thai with duck. Free hot tea, something you don‘t get everywhere. Go here! You‘ll love it!!!

Just visited Thai Kitchen for the first time this last weekend. The Curry Chicken is very good. If you have never eaten Thai food, just go and try it out, you won‘t be sorry. The restaurant is plainly decorated, no white table cloths here. The food is the star. Entries are $6-$7.

Is so delicious, but be carefull because some plates are very very hot.

I had never had Thai food until Thai Kitchen. The wait staff was very friendly, the service was very quick, the price was reasonable, and the portion was just right. The food was very flavorful and was different, but very good. I am for sure going back, and you should try the place too.

Best food in Ames go for the Thai Brazed Chicken
January 4, 2007
Pretty expensive, but you get what you pay for. The food is delicious, and if you‘ve gotta have something hot enough to burn your tongue off, this is the place. They do have milder dishes for the faint of heart, of course. Their deserts are all awesome, especially the fried bananas and the custard with sweet sticky rice.

Great food at a reasonable price! Wonderful staff! I eat there at least once a week!
September 30, 2006
Good food, but not the best Thai I‘ve ever had. The portions are a little small compared to the price and dishes are not consistent in the general make up of ingredients (e.g. one slice of potato in a curry). I will go back, but will continue to miss my favorite Thai restaurants in other parts of the country. If you are starving, no worries, your food will come in a flash.
July 12, 2006
I love it. Very cheap for very good food. Best Thai restuarant I‘ve been to.
April 18, 2006
Absolutely fantastic! Very reasonable prices, very friendly people, excellent food. I‘ve been to a lot of other Thai places around the country, and this is my favorite. Their Pad Thai in particular is the best I‘ve ever had. I‘ve liked everything I‘ve tried there, though, so you really can‘t go wrong. We should count ourselves lucky to have such a good Thai restaurant right here in Ames!
January 19, 2006
Far too expensive for what you get.
January 11, 2006
i loved the thai kitchen when i lived in ames. since leaving, i have spent a good chunk of time in thailand. and as far as i can taste, thai kitchen has a lot of the dishes right on. go there. and feast. feast for cheap.
January 11, 2006
This place is alright if your comparing it to anything else in Ames. But for the people who have been out in the real world you‘ll probably agree that thai kitchen would be at the bottom of the list. If you don‘t you probably have no clue what thai food is.
October 5, 2005
Awesome place. Very Friendly. Very Fast Service. I LOVE their curries.
September 25, 2005
I desire more of their curry.... more thai spices... should be open 24/7... yes, that would be heaven. -JWB
September 24, 2005
This place is pretty good as far as ethnic food is considered in Ames. Overall it is just okay. The service is very fast and the prices are fair but the food does not match up to other Thai restaraunts I‘ve been to. But definitely better than regular old chinese food.
July 12, 2005
I LOVE this place! To be honest, I‘ve never ordered anything but the salmon- it‘s so wonderful I just can‘t bring myself to order anything else. My sister loves the pad thai though. Don‘t forget to order a Thai iced tea or green tea ice cream to take on your way out!
January 20, 2005
this place is unbelievable...ames should be so proud of having this restaurant....if you haven‘t been there, go now!!! pad thai is a great dish to start...thai kitchen destroys any other places to eat in ames...

I live in Chicago (where they have plenty of thai restaurants) and I‘m amazed at the type of Thai food that‘s here in Ames. High quality food, good prices, and very tasty. This is the bar where I compare every Thai restaurant to. Everytime I visit my brother, I hit TK up alot. I‘ve had alot of Thai food before, and this place takes the cake. The owner is orginally from San Fran and moved to Iowa to start this up, glad he did it!
