Shogun

I‘m a regular and have been since it opened. Owned by Chinese not the great Japanese people who opened it but this is a friendly place with good food and really nice serve staff and owner and reasonable prices especially for lunch. That said, I‘m from S. CA and it doesn‘t even come close to the quality you find in CA so 4 not 5 stars. It was better under the original owners but that‘s immaterial to this review.

This place is a family favorite. The food is delicious, flavorful, and good quality. Plus, the portions are very large but the price is not. It does not offer a fancy atmosphere, but it is clean and comfortable. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. I personally like the sushi here much better than Fuji. If you don‘t like this place, then you don‘t have a sophisticated pallet or good taste. Period.

We love this place! Casual, but great food. The dragon roll, unagi don, tempura shrimp and vegetables, udon and bento boxes are terrific! We return and return.

For great sushi try Super WalMart sushi on Duff. It is the best! Blows away Shogun or Fuji and way cheaper. My favorites are the creamy hamachi roll and unagi. Yum. They will make any roll you can think of, the trained sushi chef is that good. They fly their fish in daily and have better quality control so you won‘t get food poisoning like mentioned by customers at these two other establishments. WalMart and Sam Walton rock!

I personally think it is a great place to eat. Great service and Great staff, never had a problem, and they are very hospitable to our family including our 3 yr old daughter. the same people are always working so u know it will be the same service and I LOVE the sushi there! I cannot say the same for Fugi.

Boring! This food is so bland and flavorless. The sushi is really bad. I ordered the rainbow roll, what a joke! I was not satisfied at all. My stomach was full but my craving for some good sushi was still there. The salmon was pale and unappealing and the flying fish roe was fishy tasting. No amount of soy sauce would cover that up! Yuck! I also got the Tako Su... NO flavor! What is the deal with this place? I doused soy souce on it in hopes that it would liven up the flavor but it just tasted like soy sauce on top of rubbery octopus. My boyfriend ordered a beef dish with vegetables and fried rice. It was runny and flavorless. The one good thing I can say about this place is that they have quick service. But that doesn‘t make up for how awful the food was. Never again! I‘m sticking with Fugi. The service is slower but the food is worth the wait. Fugi has much larger portions and the quality of the fish is way better!

The staff is always friendly, the prices are definitely lower than fuji, and the sushi at Shogun is just far more superior. The lunch special of 2 rolls for 6.95 also with miso soup or a salad is hard to beat. For that price you only get one roll at fuji! I say, if you want a "show" go to fuji..but if you want quality sushi, head over to Shogun.

Great place for sushi and sashimi. Their lunch special is awesome! 3 rolls for $10 is a very reasonable price for the quality of sushi. And for the dinner, the bento box is very tempting as it comes with lots of food starting at around $12. A very friendly, family-ownded establishment. Every meals ends with fruit on ice and a Dum-Dum sucker!

I love eating at Shogun. Their sushi is the best tasting and the best priced. They have a great lunch menu. Their prices are very reasonable compared to other sushi restaurants around town. Whenever i have family that come and visit i always bring them to shogun because you can never go wrong with their selection!

I eat out very rarely now but when I do 1/2 the time it‘s at Shogun. I‘ve been eating Japanese for 30 years and enjoy the food, am known at Shogun as a regular even though my days of going there more than 1x a month are over. This has a family owned restaurant feel. Service is always prompt, exact, gracious and friendly. Food is good and satisfying. Lots of students eat here.

Fuji is always better for food,drink and service...
Top one for restaurant in Ames....can you beat that??

I completely disagree! Fugi is a crowded mess. I would recommend going to Fugi for the hibachi and to Shogun for sushi. Shogun‘s sushi lunch specials are especially great and cheap! Definitely the best sushi around!

Slow service and awful food. We went with a group and were very disappointed. Fuji is so much better if you are thinking sushi!

I‘ve ordered the food from there many a time. I‘ve never sat down to eat my food there, but I was still recognized on what I liked to order. Fast, good, and very friendly employees.

Some of the best Japanese steakhouse food out there, the sushi is expertly prepared, and well while there might be a little wait it is always definitely worth it!

My husband and I go here often....we love the sushi and plum wine!!! Also the people working are very nice and we get great service!!
