West Towne Pub

I understand some of the bad reviews. Within their first couple of years we had poor service too. But we have gone a few times since summer and each time we‘ve had great food and super service. We‘d probably go more if we didn‘t live so far away from it.

Terrible service and food is below average for the price. Not a good place to watch an Iowa State game either.

After waiting an hour for our food after ordering: "It‘s really busy tonight". Newsflash! It‘s a Saturday night on gameday! Folks may actually come to eat here!!

Okay my Aunt and Uncle took me to this place because of the "The Burger you‘ll ever eat", so I got there looked over the menu and read the Skippy Burger, wait a minute, peanut butter on a hamburger........ are you crazy...... no thanks..... then my Uncle called me a chicken, so I placed my order.... one Skippy Burger please.................. Oh my gosh, went back the very next day to get my Skippy Burger Fix!!!! Now I am back in NC and soooooo sad I cannot get a Skippy Burger...... wonder how much shipping would be?????? Great service, excellent environment.... Super Duper Skippy Burger!!!!!!

Gizzard special on Saturdays! They cook burgers to order & know what rare means. Waitress was good and loved the atmosphere. We would definitely go back. The wings are nothing special. Just ok.

Drinks are good, but food sucks. I could make better hamburgers at home.

Good place for sporting events. Watched football last weekend. Service was good as well as the wings which were cheap.

The place has become an Ames landmark, its menu is terrific and always has new items that keeps you coming back for more. The drinks are delicious, you dont get the famous water down version at this joint. They have a great Beer line up as well, all the favroites expect that Bud Light Line. Atmosphere has improved over the years. It is becoming The "CHEERS" of Ames.. Try the boneless wings they are the best!!!!

Everytime I go to West Towne it is never a disappointment! Always have great service from a very friendly wait staff and the food is great tasting and never have to wait long! They have a perfect mix of a great family environment and fun sports bar. If I can‘t catch a game on tv at home there is no doubt I go to West Towne to have a few cocktails with some friends at a very spacious bar, where the staff always waits on you in a timely manner. Overall...bartenders are great, wait staff is kind, courteous, and prompt, and food is fantastic! Well done WTP!

Food is alright. We recieved very poor service then realized that the wait staff was spending all of their time at the tables that had people under 30 years of age. Tables, like ours, where the guests were all over 50 got very minimal service. We usually tip our waiters and waitresses 20-25%. We gave our girl only 15% tip and then wished I gave her only 10%. Their service and attitude was offensive. We won‘t go back.

I use to go here every tuesday for the karaoke, until one bad experience. The bartender that night was extremely rude, mixed my drink wrong that i‘ve had ordered there many times before, and more or less he called me an asshole and wouldn‘t fix the drink. All things aside from that one situation, this place is never popping and is overpriced on just about everything. Not an inviting place!

the food here is terrible, straight from the freezer and into the frier, and you‘re lucky if it‘s hot when you get it

I went on a weeknight when West Towne wasn‘t very busy. It took 10 minutes for the waitress to come ask for our drink orders and another 10 for them to come. My burger was cold, the bun was soggy, and the fries were gross. My girlfriend‘s food was worse.

ISU and me and my friends come here often! The waitresses are great, even will socialize with you unlike many bars! As for weak drinks i disagree, they usually are stronger then some of the bars on Welch! I go to West Towne at least every other week!

Service is poor at best. Waitresses rarely come around when you want a drink, and bring you drinks when you don‘t order them. If you do order a drink, there is about a 50% chance that you‘ll actually get what you ordered. And there‘s an even worse chance that your bill is correct at the end of the night.

to the previous post-I have worked in the service industry for 12 years. In that time I have learned that the best tips usually come from people who don‘t have the most money. Nobody over 50 gives the best tips unless their college-aged children are with them...who probably have a job in the service industry. I usually get good service here, a little over priced for what you get but then can get away with it. It‘s the only place out on that end of town. And the patio is great in the summer.

What an overrated place. Food was OK, but very over priced. Service was extreamly poor. I think they only want to serve people under 30...which we are not. But, they have to realize that it is those of us over 50 that give the best tips.

Great place to watch cubs baseball on a lazy sunday, bartender was friendly and personnable, nice large bar w/ lots of seats. food was average at best is the only draw back, drinks a bit pricey, but good time overall

My girlfriend and I ate there last night and really loved the Skippy Burger. The fries were really good too.

The first time I ate here we waited 10 minutes before we even got waited on and then we waited another 10 minutes before we even got our drinks and the sad thing is the place was dead! I guess she was cute but not intelligent. Another time I went in there the girl bartender was absolutely rude and everything is overpriced, I won‘t be spending anymore of my money of time in this place.

Great food, a little pricey and small portions but its always very good. Service is great, the waitresses obviously enjoy working there..and they are pretty good looking. Plus, they always play some sweet tunes.

Went on a Wednesday night. Worst service ever. Bartender was not friendly. Servers were all chatting by the entrance instead of doing their jobs. Only positive is the rib rolls were very good. Yay for the cooks. They are the only thing holding West Town together!

Awesome, went there for a football game, plenty of tvs, good food, didn‘t have to wait very long even though it was packed.

This is a really great place to go for a few drinks, appetizers, or dinner with friends. The menu is very unique and delicious. The manager is very personable and entertaining.

I don‘t know how you could ruin a BLT sandwich but I just had the worst one I‘ve ever had. It was made on plain old white bread and had 1 small slice of tomato on each half and then grilled! Warm tomato, limp lettuce, and undercooked bacon. The steamed vegetables were apparently frozen not fresh and not good at all. This measley meal cost $7.27. What a rip off!

The rib rolls are fantastic and we always get great service! Mom and Dad love to go there for the buffalo fries.

Poor place to have live music. what do you want to be known for? bands cost alot of cash....... lets get somemore room to fill the place......blues bands....excellent

bartenders are great but the bar lacks any personality. Just some beer signs hung up with a concrete floor. The food was outta the box into the fryer. Nothing worth talking about. Could you turn up the music a little louder to. Oh and the lights. Nothing better than being blinded and deafened at the same time.

Fun and inviting interior. Bartenders were nice, but server was mediocre at best. The server did not check up on us once and didn‘t even ask if the meal was alright. When she dropped the check and ran back behind the bar to socialize our opinions were set. Food was sub-par and served in a basket for some "fun" reason. The whole experience left us wondering why you would go there for dinner. Drinks sure, but a nice meal with good service NO!

I love this place! My friends and I always have a great time here. The rib rolls are fabulous and the bartenders are great. They always know what we all want when they see us coming. Most of the wait staff are friendly and helpful too. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes to go out and have fun and isn‘t worried about nit-picking everything that is wrong with every place they go.

Went for dinner last night with the family. The rib rolls are amazing! Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was excellent! We‘ll definitely be back!

I‘ve been here a few times. My mom and I loved the sandwiches (French Dip and a pineapple chicken sandwich). I really enjoy their fries (thicker cut and with seasoning), however, my boyfriend doesn‘t care for them. I also recommend the Skippy burger. My boyfriend wasn‘t too impressed-he felt it was just ok. The service was excellent and I will go back!

Good food, great waitresses...always plenty of seating with good games on TV. Pool tables and other entertainment in back, I always have a good time.

Solid menu, good beers on tap, and a decent wait staff... I‘m not sure about the negative experiences listed on this website, but out of 7 visits, I‘d had nothing but good visits.

This place sucks. Get new bartenders. Then maybe i‘ll come back.

Went to the bar to have a drink and the bartend was to busy flirting with the guys to wait on me. I never have had a good experince there. Maybe you should fire all the trashy bartenders then you mite get more costomers.

My wife and I tried this place last night. The service was awful and the food was even worse. How does a place like this stay open?

Wait staff is slow as molasses. Food was decent, the hot wings are fried in peanut oil for a yummy flavor. Basically caters to the west ames college crowd. I think this place could be decent. But the service, including the bartenders but especially the wait staff, are very, very slow. If they fixed that it would be a pretty good place for bar food and drinks.

Probably the worst place to eat in Ames.

We have always recieved great service and great food. One of the first places in town I recommend to friends.

Went down on a Thursday night for karaoke. Got there at 9 ordered some food. Food was ok but would not go there to eat again. Karaoke had good sound, very little song list and choice of songs to sing, and rotation of singers was aweful. Had to wait 2 hours to sing 2 songs after watching other singers get up more then once in that time. Ordered some drinks at the bar and was charged $10.00 for drinks that were to cost $9.00. Half the time the bar tender was not behind the bar.

I will not take my business back to West Town Pub.

If this is a family sports bar, then Des Moines is going to get the next NFL expansion franchise. Why go here when Old Chicago, Wallaby‘s, and Es Tas are in Town?

Good food....good service..great adult beverages.. We just got back to Chicago after a trip to Ames...lots of good places here in Chicago. But the West Towne Pub ranks right up there with many of them...Enjoy!

Took our guests to the Pub last night.The food was excellent,the waitress was even better...very friendly,very helpful..had some super seinor citizens with us and they thought the Pub was the best place they had been to that also had many younger patrons....they enjoyed all the TV‘s and really enjoyed watching the Cubs game as they ate..If it had a place for six stars,I‘d rate it six.

My wife and I travel all over the country and we haven‘t found a place that is more friendly,or has any better food.. We have ordered most things off of the menu and can recommend everything....never a bad meal. The people that work there are the best in the midwest..no kidding. That is why when ever we are in the area the West Towne Pub is our favorite..

Went in last Saturday night. The bar area was packed so we sat at a table. After 20 minutes of waitresses walking by our table and ignoring us, we flagged one down. She took our drink orders, and came back 10 minutes later informing us to take our orders to the bar. Apparently they stop waiting on tables after taking orders. Don‘t think I can go back after that awful service. I understand it was around midnight, but tell us straight from the start. Don‘t tell me you don‘t do orders after you‘ve taken my order.

Bit too much smoke for the kids, not a great family friendly spot.

Some nice menu items. Rib rolls are very good. Hamburger was good. Place looks very nice. Fine service. Overall, very enjoyable, perfect for a bar and grill.

the menu is HUGE and the fries are AWESOME!!
They have so many appetizers it‘s hard to choose.
I love it that they added the dinner entrees to the menu too.

We had dinner last night and my steak was AWESOME! The service was fast and very friendly!

Nothing like watching the staff get questioned by the police for serving a minor while you are eating
