Old George's Pizza

That‘s because Old George is not paying any of his bills. He moved from his old location because he did not pay the rent. He is probably headed back to Greece by now. Opa!

What happened to George‘s. Phone says "temporairly disconnected" and went there to find it is closed. Why?

Hands down the best pizza in Ames. Nevery had a George‘s pizza or sandwich I didn‘t love.

The previous person is absolutely right. I believe Old George‘s is doing what they call, "Cutting overhead costs!" They are trying to transition to carry out and delivery. If you absolutely have to come into the restaurant and eat, then this is what you get. You have to ask yourself, what is the real reason I came to George‘s? FOR THE PIZZZA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eat it at home and quit complaining.

We went to Old George‘s Pizza‘s new west Ames location today. We ordered a pizza that was really yummy, as before. (If I could, I‘d like it baked about 2 minutes more.) BUT, now there is no silverware except flimsy plastic that broke in use, paper plates, a can of pop with no ice available. The crust on their pizza is tasty but hard to eat with the plastic and paper they have for customers to use. No serving spatula to dish up the pizza. The ceiling is very high and the normal noise from customers‘ voices seems louder than usual, with echos. I highly recommend the pizza for eating at home, not in this dining room. This is too bad because in previous locations, dining was quite pleasant.

Old George‘s Pizzeria! COMING SOON! It is moving to west Ames by West Towne Pub where Buckets and Smokin‘ Antlers used to be. Mostly delivery and takeout. Limited seating for dine in! CHECK IT OUT!

Best pizza in Ames!

OK, if you‘ve been to Belluci‘s in Boone, and Great Plains in Ames, George‘s falls right between the two. Crust is fantastic! Not too thin, not too thick. Plentiful tasty toppings with just the right amount of cheese and sauce makes this an almost perfect Italian pie. Service is lacking sometimes but don‘t let that scare you away from one of the best pizza‘s in central Iowa. Keep up the good George!

My husband and I have traveled all around the country and we always try the local "best pizza", whether it‘s Chicago, New York, Boston, etc. I am here to tell you that you don‘t have to go to any of these big faraway cities to experience some of the most awesome pizza! It‘s right here in Ames, Iowa if you can believe that! Everything is from scratch and has amazing flavor. I assume this is his own recipe because I‘ve never tasted a flavor quite like it. My family loves this pizza and we go at least a couple of times a month to satisy our "George‘s Pizza Craving"... I‘t‘s thin-crust at its best. YUMMY!!!!! All the other food there is great too~~George is a Greek and knows his way around the kitchen for sure!

My girlfriend and I consider ourselves thin crust pizza snobs. We recently tried Old George‘s for the first time and loved it! The inside of the restaurant was clean and nicely decorated with a wonderful staff. This was a pleasant surprise as the outside of the building wasn‘t overly impressive. There weren‘t a lot of kids in the restaurant, it seemed to primarily be adult regulars who were enjoying their evening meal. The ingredients on our respective pizzas were fresh and tasty. My girlfriend ordered a pepperoni and green olive and I ordered the sausage, pepperoni, garlic and mushroom. Both of us left happy and stuffed. We highly recommend Old George‘s for people who love gourmet pizza. Unlike some of the other reviewers, we didn‘t find Old George‘s pizza to be greasy at all.

When friends and family ask me where to get pizza in Ames, I send them to Old George‘s. It is simply the best pizza you can buy locally. Delicious sauce, a perfect cracker crust, and the freshest toppings you‘ll find anywhere. They even make their own sausage!

This is my favorite pizza place in Ames. It‘s the closest to New York style pizza that can be had around here. Yes it‘s greasy, but that‘s a consequence of using a real pizza oven.

I don‘t really like commenting on other reviews but I don‘t want some reviewer‘s ignorance to be a deterrent on others. All pizza is unhealthy for you because cheese is going to have a lot of fat in it. Whether or not there‘s grease on the pizza is more a consequence of how the pizza is cooked. It‘s not like he‘s dumping extra grease onto it. If you‘re afraid of fat then you shouldn‘t be eating pizza period. If you still want to eat pizza then this is a great place to go.

I‘ve never had the pizza, but the two items I did have were very good. My husband and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner here, and the staff was great. It‘s fun to meet George himself and see him making pizza.

Not too bad. I know pizza is supposed to be greasy, but my pepperoni should not be floating in it.

Hands down, best pizza in Ames. Nice to see George himself working the ovens...makes it all the better.

Old George‘s is the best pizza around if you like a crisp crust, a special blended pizza sauce and homemade sausage.

This is a neck & neck tie with Great Plains for the Best Pizza of Ames. The crust at Ol‘ George‘s is the bomb, and keeps me coming back. If you are a thin-crust person, this is the only way to go. Nice variety of other Greek-style items. No complaints other than they don‘t take cards. Cash or Check only.

Old Goerge‘s or Great Plains are the best pizza in Ames. Get the George‘s special.
