Papa's Corner

I love this place. The specials aren‘t bad. It is a lot cleaner than most bars in campus town. It is a great place to throw back a few drinks and chat with friends. Where else can a guy get a good burger in campustown? Also, the bartenders and other staff do a great job of making a person feel welcome. Whenever I walk in there, I feel like "Norm" from Cheers. They have gotten some pretty good bands this fall, and the GIANT TV is great for watching sports. Hmmm...When I look for a place to spend a few hours with friends, I look for a place that is clean, large, with good food, drinks, and friendly/hardworking staff. Papa‘s has it all!

It aint no people‘s, but it‘s ok. The band I saw there was a typical barband nothing spectacular except for the bass player. The drink specials need some work. it is nice going to the bathroom and not seeing a stool with no lid and projectile vomit and/or blood everywhere.

"the people that are reviewing" are the general population of ISU. so yes, the general population would like popa‘s corner to revert back to the more fun bar it was. You then go on to attack the other bands that play there. whats your problem? If the management made a verbal or paper contract, and didn‘t uphold their end, thats a breach of contract. your a very calous person, and/or fucking the manager. I‘m not a musician, but i thought ya‘ll look out for each other.

You then go on to defend the bar without any logic backing it up, wtf? the guy your attacking backed his stuff up. also, the management should have had another person on duty if it was busy, that is still the management‘s fault.

and lastly, as for your saying getting blitzed at home will save lives, your assuming that people who want specials only want to get crazy drunk. I personally am a stereotypical poor college student, that needs to do the deals to afford the bars, and there are a ton out there just like me. also, welch is for college students. most people walk, you can hardly find a place to park if you look.

anyway, I went back there during the night of the last football game, it was the only bar that didn‘t have a line, so i decided to give it a second chance. not worth it. cover was too high, very boring when everywhere else was fun, and nowhere else had cover. it will be closed soon, hopefully the next "People" will get it right.

Well now seems to me that those that are reviewing seem to want everything the way it was. And the bands that have played there may not be as experienced as the they think. I have played there and have talked with all of the folks that work there and had a great experience. And no I do not work there. Maybe this person who everyone thinks if rude was having a bad day or may be she was rude because she was the only bartender on a busy night. One person can only do so much at any given time. If your so anxious to get blitzed at the bar may be you ought to do it at home and not go out. You might save some lives including your own.

I was skeptical going into this place because the owners forced People‘s out to persue their own selfish dreams but they offered to let our band and a couple others to play there on the agreement that the bands would get the cover. The bands brought in sixty customers but the managers decided they were gonna keep the cover and pay the bands nothing. They have a $40,000 sound system that they refuse to turn up and they cut both of the headling bands off before their sets were done. Half the beer was sold out by the end of the night, leaving little beer selection and they had one slow bar tender to serve a somewhat busy bar. Wouldn‘t play there again and wouldn‘t go in this place again. The management are liars and the sound people are don‘t know what they‘re doing.

This place sucks. Owners, management and staff - they are all clueless. The place looks nice, but that doesn‘t mean much. Lumpy‘s was a crap hole and it rocked! If the owners were smart they would rent out the space again to someone who knows what they are doing.

I really feel bad for any of the non-management staff, because this place should, in theory, be pretty popular. Great location, big, good amount of seating, cool looking bar. But the specials blow, charging cover when everyone is pissed anyway is stupid, and ripping out the most popular bar in campustown to complete some sort of lifelong "dream" or whatever is bound to keep people away.

Do something to actively get people in there, instead of turning them away.

The management at both Papa‘s and Angie‘s Kitchen (same owner, same management) sucks. They have no clue what they are doing. I used to be a regular at Angie‘s and there were a couple people there who really made you feel welcome, but they disappeared when the management changed and it hasn‘t been the same since. It seems that Papa‘s has contracted the same unfriendly air.

I know someone who used to work there and she was so traumatized by the whole experience that she will never set foot in either place again. Management doesn‘t seem to understand that in order to be successful and make money you have to be know how to treat your employees and your customers. They nit-pick about food costs to the detriment of quality and then waste thousands and thousands of dollars in labor and materials ripping out completed and gorgeous design aspects because of a petty personal vendetta. ("Amen!!!" to the befuddled design student below)

In short, neither the people or the restaurants deserve your patronage. Save your money and go elsewhere.

So the reason peoples didn‘t stay there was because they didn‘t pay their rent to the owners.
This place still has their historic value, the building has been owned by the family for over 100 years. Peoples did not have any historic value anyway.

Any bar has many bumps when they first open, we got stuff figured out now with specials and some awesome bands.

Hopefully things will pick up in the fall, we will be getting some bigger bands in there as well. So perhaps you can give Papas another chance.

The hours are also off for the website here. The lunch hours are 11-2, then dinner from 5-9 and the bar from 9-2 a.m

I dont know about this place, they dont want to bring in the college crowd when they are located in campus town, that doesnt make sense. Its always dead and isnt fun. My friend pissed all over their bathroom, he hates it!

April 23, kinda sounds like you work there, and you only gave the place 4 stars to make it less obvious.

I was never a big fan of People‘s myself, but at least there was a little bit of historic value in People‘s.

Incredibly stupid of the landlord to get rid of People‘s. I kinda hope this "Pooper‘s Corner" goes under just to teach him a lesson.

This place is all cleaned up and looks good. The drinks aren‘t too expensive and the music is great. The only problem is that everyone has forgotten that there used to be a bar where Papa‘s Corner sits. The times I have been there I was about the only person there. If you went and you took all of your friends the place would rock.

yep! this place was a huge disappointment. it needs new management that knows how to run a bar.

I was on the Cyclone Fanatic web site and someone called Papa‘s Corner pooper‘s corner! How appropriate! They have more toilets then they have customers! So if you‘re in campastown and you need to go, you know where to go! That‘s the only reason I‘d go! It‘s a real you know WHAT. We all miss the old PEOPLE‘S. I give this place one star and a flush.

This place is worse then a joke,at least a joke is funny! Papa‘s is flat out pathetic. Whats really bizzare is in the begining of their construction they had a scale model of the completed project displayed in the front window. It was amazing! The stage was beautifull ,with a large painted murial that looked like a large picture window and a rounded canopy on top that made it look like an old time train station. The bar looked even better with a curved roof similar to an old trolly car. The stage area was complete ,and the bar was almost done also. My friends and I were really looking forward to it opening.Finally someone was going to give campustown a real nightclub!
Then suddenly they tore it all out! Replacing it with some plastic lookin chicken coop thing. What happened? WE had been following it‘s progress and were totaly dumfonded. I‘ve asked different employees there about it and the only explaination I get is that the owners changed thier minds. I think the‘ve lost thier minds! I think the atmosphere in there sucks! They shot themselfs in the foot when they did that as far as I‘m concerned. What a shame!

How does this place revitalize campustown? Campustown does not need revitalization, it just needs growth and diversity. This place doesn‘t add diversity... it adds a joke...

I very rarely rant, however in certain situations, it is deserved an i do it.

Head bartender JENNIFER was very rude. Look for this place to be closed and under new management in a few months. They don‘t even have specials!!!! I go to the bars often, but I will never step foot in "Papa‘s Corner" again. I‘ve never been more disappointed in my life!!!!!!

What a joke. Maybe they should have spent another year closed. I wasn‘t the biggest fan of People‘s, but it beat the heck out of this place.
