Grew up here, visiting from Portland, OR, (ergo, admitted Food Snob). Too long a wait at The Café, wedding parties at Main Brewing, hadn‘t been to Lucullan‘s in 20 yrs, decided to give it a try. New owners, apparently, and new chef as well, and I gotta say, it was great. Nothing ground-breaking on the brand-new menu, but I never expected that. We had several small plates-- sweet corn risotto, heirloom tomatoes, grilled shrimp-- and pasta and a steak for dinner. Everything was great; fresh, well presented, tasty. Clearly prepared with attention and pride. Reading the reviews, it seems that Luc‘s may have fallen off in recent years, but I‘d urge you to give it another try-- they seem to be doing things right again.

We had them cater our wedding, and employed two of their servers to help with the dinner. They were reminded by one of our helpers to plug in the warmer provided by the reception hall to keep the food warm (which seems pretty simple). They didn‘t and our food was cold. When I told the owner about the incident, he basically said it was my own fault for expecting too much.

I still had to pay these two employees for their "service". If you expect someone who can be relied on to plug an oven to keep the food you pay and arm and a leg for, don‘t come to Lucallan‘s.

Such a bad experience, especially after the owner offered no understanding. I loved their food when I ate at the restaurant, but now that I know the owner doesn‘t care about the quality of SERVICE provided, I won‘t be back.

Used to be a good place to go for good food and service. Now the food is poor, overcooked yet cold. The wait service acts like they don‘t want to be there. We will be hard pressed to go back.

Really had a great time...... I enjoyed sitting overlooking the downtown area looking at the beautiful park. I had the pasta with shrimp and asparagus (the asparagus was grown by the owner!)... my wife had the Cajun Pasta. The food was excellent....and the waiter was very helpful and attentive. I definitely think this is one of the best places in Ames.... check it out.
