Great Italian food, quick service, wait staff is always friendly and helpful. I just wish they expand their menu a little, otherwise top notch for Ames!

Great, authentic Italian. Their sauce is to die for.

I have no idea what the reviewers who gave this restaurant a one star ordered. Both my wife and I who frequent Italian cuisine and have been to Italy a few times found the ravioli and egg plant delicious. The homemade salad dressings were also delicious.
We would go back in a second.

Having been a person who goes to Italian resturaunts fairly often i have to say this place has its own charm. Extremely in consistant on one hand the toppings on the pizzas are amazing. on the other hand the entree meals were for lack of a better word horrid. You pay upscale for the food and you get no better quality than a hot pocket. Also the wait staff is amazing the owner who is out in the dining room is very personable but who ever runs the kitchen needs to get their act together because for the inconsistancy and the prices it is appauling and frankly insulting to me the consumer. They have great potential and when everything is done well it left with a very good exprience.

The cheese toast is sooo good! It is quiet and relaxing to eat here. My friend and I come here to getaway after work. I usually get the eggplant parmesan and she gets the combination plate. The service is great and we always leave happy and relaxed.

Food is great. Sauce is amazing. Serice is great. A little over-priced. Atmosphere could be better.

The pizza was fine, but it was the worst Italian food I‘ve every paid for. Again the pizza is reasonably priced, but the italian is beyond ridiculous for what you get in quantity and quality. I would give it three or maybe four stars if it just served pizza, but as long as they insist on calling themselves an Italian restaurant I‘ll have to rate it at one. Save your money and make something yourself if you want Italian.

Ge-Angelo‘s has amazing ravioli--you can tell that it is handmade. The meat (in both the meatballs, ravioli, etc) could use a little more seasoning, but the texture‘s great. Pretty good place, very nice atmosphere, and the owners are very nice, and make an effort to come around and talk to you to ensure you‘re enjoying your meal.

My family and I dine here often. We usually order an appetizer and pizza. The "Italian Nachos" (is that an oxymoron) are excellent. They pile the nachos with cheese and toppings.
The pizza is the best in ames. It has a unique crust, tasty sauce, and ample and flavorful topings. Try the meatball or sausage.
Finally, the atmosphere is top notch. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and helpful.

I love this restaurant! Absolutely amazing ravioli. It‘s nice and quiet and the atmosphere is romantic. My husband and I have been going quite frequently actually, and have not yet found a reason not to return!

I‘ve only eaten at Ge-Angelo‘s once and don‘t think I‘ll go again. While it has a comfortable atmosphere, the indoor temp was cold, the food overpriced and too salty and it took a long time to get our meal. We started with a loaded nacho appetizer, which was good but it went downhill from there. My chicken sandwich was salty and tough. My son‘s lasagna was way overpriced -- somewhere around $11.95 for a small, round bowl and it was very average in flavor.

Super good pasta and pizza! We have never been disappointed. The pizza is especially great--the best in town!

The atmosphere is ok. The food, at least what I have had, is terrible. I can‘t believe people actually think that it is good or even ok italian. Perhaps it is because of the lack of good Italian resturaunts in town. I have worked in foodwervice for years and I recognize certain items; like the cheap frozen breaded chicken puck that they use for the chicken parmesan. My plate litteraly had a pool of water from them not draining the pasta well enough. Hardly any sauce, and very little cheese.
The bread was stale and the service stunk. Do not settle for this crap, even fazoli‘s is better than this place.

We love this place! Our whole family enjoys the food and the atmosphere. We have teenage boys and they fill up on the pizza and my wife and I have the cheese ravioli and eggplant. It is a great place to spend an evening!

Worst Italian restaurant I have ever been to! Their "red sauce" tastes just like Hunt‘s tomato sauce.....bland and in dire need of spices. Their chicken is dry and tastes freezer burnt. Stouffers frozen Italian dinners put them to shame.

My wife and I love Ge-Angelo‘s! We always order the cheese toast and then share the Natomelli pizza. We have never had a bad experience. We have brought many friends in with us and we‘ve always enjoyed the experience and will keep coming back!

I am responding to the posting on May 2nd. My name is Tina Colburn, and I am the owner of Ge-Angelo‘s. I spoke with the table three times because I felt something was not right. The couple did not complain about anything until after they left and called and I spoke with the boyfriend. I refunded their money and apologized for their bad experience. I did explain to him that the eggplant is most likely not the culprit of his girlfriend being sick since it set in so soon. My husband and I strive for great quality and great service and we are very proud of the food we serve. The recipes are authentic Italian. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. We know there are many restaurants in Ames and appreciate all the business we receive. If there is ever an issue when you are at Ge-Angelo‘s please bring it to our attention. We will do what it takes to make it right. Thanks!

DO NOT GO HERE. The worst "Italian" restaurant I‘ve ever been. Went on a Friday night....the service was ok, but by no means impressive. The food was horrible, had the mozzorella sticks as an appetizer, they were unusual and not necessarily in a good way. I had the combination platter (spaghetti + raviolli,) and my girlfriend had the eggplant. The red sauce which is apparently supposed to be good is a watery, poorly seasoned, little flavor, sauce. The sausage link that accompanied the combination platter (along with a meat ball,) was not impressive and seemed to be of low quality. Overall a dissapointing meal I would not recommend. My girlfriend‘s meal, the eggplant, was too thick and therefore undercooked. She too was very dissapointed with the red sauce that accompanied her spaghetti. However the kicker is that after complaining to me about the food, she got sick from it...actually twice. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone in good conscience. Service was so-so and the food was definitely sub-par at best and as far from authentic Italian as one can get, (I studied in Rome for a semester,) even with the understanding that we are in small town Ames.

My boyfriend and I went here a couple of weeks ago. The atmosphere was romantic and we had heard the pizza was good. I ordered alfredo and my boyfriend had lasagna. I‘ve had much better alfredo sauce from a jar; it was bland, boring, and tasted like a microwave meal. My boyfriend had a tiny portion of lasagna that was VERY overcooked, dried out, and not enough sauce. However, the cheese sticks were actually pretty good, which sadly had gotten my hopes up for the meal!

The food had little flavor, the menu was unaccommodating to vegetarians or to those who have restricted diets, and the service was sub par. I highly discourage eating there.

My husband and I ate here for the first time the other night. It was amazing! We were greeted with a very friendly and attentive server. He suggested the Natomeli pizza. I ordered that and my husband got the geno‘s spaghetti. I loved the pizza--it was full of great vegetables with just enough cheese and having the olive oil instead of sauce made is quite unique. My husband loved the spicy peppers on his spaghetti and thought the sauce was delicious. He said his salad was fresh and really liked the homebaked breadstick. We ended with tiramisu--which also was recommended by our server. That alone is worth going in for. The owner came to welcome us. She was very friendly. It was refreshing to see the owner active and attentive. That is something you don‘t see much. We will be back very soon! Ge-Angelo‘s is a fantastic place!

I don‘t know what the previous person is talking about. I love the eggplant and I feel the half portion size is perfect. The eggplant is thickly sliced and fresh. The sauce is so good I could drink it. We go there regularly and always have very attentive service. We speak with the owners frequently and know the sauce does not come from a can. Ge-Angelo‘s is a great place to eat and to relax!

The worst "Italian" food I‘ve ever had! Our salads were a joke - iceberg lettuce with a baby carrot (yes, a baby carrot), and one slice of cucumber. Very unappealing. My Eggplant Parmesan was, in a word, awful. One slice of breaded eggplant sat atop a small pile of overcooked pasta. The sauce was under seasoned and tasted as if it had been poured straight from a can. The eggplant had been overcooked and had turned to slime. Not a well executed dish. The spaghetti my girlfriend ordered was no better. Only one piece of bread was offered to us during the whole meal - a piece of pizza dough with some cheese and herbs. Two orders of pasta and one beer cost us about $25.00 before tip, which we left even though our server was slow and uncouth (she kept touching her hair while at our table, and licked her fingers after getting sauce on them from laying my plate down). The food reminded us of the type of Italian you can get in a mall food court. Don‘t waste your time or your money at Ge-Angelo‘s. Valentino‘s has moved in just down the mall. If you‘re looking for bad Italian food, go there. At least you won‘t be out as much money.

We were quite impressed with the attentiveness of the server and we loved the pizza. It was not too cheesy and had a nice crispy crust. We enjoyed our evening.

You would expect an Italian restaurant to have good spaghetti. My husband is a great judge of spaghetti, and he thought it was horrible here, not to mention a miserly portion. If that was a full portion, I would hate to see the half. My Chicken Parmesan sandwich was bland & dry. I could not even choke it down. The only good thing was the serving of frozen vegetables. The sevice was extremely slow & poor, and the atmosphere was not so great.

This is a good neighborhood restaurant. If I lived nearby, I would patronize it regularly for the cozy atmosphere and really nice help. The food however is exceptionally average. I ordered what turned out to be olive oil and mushy spag noodles. Quite forgettable. If someone asked me to to go here, I would gladly oblige, but I just never really think about this place to go on my own.

Great neighborhood restaurant. Friendly wait staff, good food, and best pizza in Ames. If you want to go to a restaurant where you feel welcome and feel like everyone knows your name, this is it.

Best pizza we have had in ames. We love it and are sorry that we didn‘t find it earlier. Now we live in des moines and are always craving their pizza!
August 27, 2006
Poor food, horrible looking dining room, and untrained 14 year old servers. A lot of reheating clearly goes on in this kitchen and it also features dried pasta and tasteless sauces. This is less an italian restaurant and more a school cafateria with slower service. You may get better food if you just boiled some fresh pasta from hyvee. Pretty lame Ge-Angelo‘s.

This is my favorite place in Ames! I‘ve been going here all through college...friendly owners and waitresses, the BEST chicken parmesan in the world, and wonderful cheese sticks, red sauce, and Italian dressing, all home-made. If you like authentic home-cooked tasting Italian food this is the place to go, none of that Fazoli‘s crap. You‘ll feel like you are eating right out of your Italian grandmother‘s kitchen!
August 12, 2006
Good atmoshphere, but the three times I‘ve went, I‘ve had undercooked pasta twice, and bad meatballs once. If you‘re looking for a better Italian place, you‘d be better off going to Fazoli‘s across the road.
July 10, 2006
I had meatball spagetti there and the meatballs tasted like they had been heated and cooled several times. So not only was I late for my show, but I ended up being sick for the next few days.
July 3, 2006
nice atmosphere, bad food, poor drinks, great service
February 7, 2006
My finace and I have been here many times in the past four years and never had a bad experience. The food and the service has always been great. I would recommend this place for a dating atmosphere.

AMAZING pizza, great pasta and sandwiches.... Casual atmosphere and great new owners!

Overpriced, didn‘t care for my meal. Chicken Parmesean tasted like dog food.
December 7, 2005
Never eat tomatoes there - they purchase rotten ones for cheap and cut the mold off them.
August 14, 2005
This is the best italian in ames. the made-from-scratch red sauce is AMAZING, and the pizza beats the hell out of great plains.
April 3, 2005
really good italian food. they seem to "run out" of stuff a lot (or they have at least 3/4 of the times ive been there), which is annoying.

Love the chicken parmesan!
