This is hands-down the BEST place to eat! I have never been disappointed by any of their food. Their sesame chicken, pineapple chicken, and wontons are my favorite!

They have the best Chinese food in town, so it kills me to say this, but since they moved out east I will not eat there. I will only order take out. The new place everytime I have been there it takes over an hour to be seated and served. The building is too small. I love House of Chen‘s food but it is just impossible to eat in the actual restaurant anymore. They do not have enough staff, tables to accomodate their restaurant customers any longer....a shame really since the old restaurant out by the mall sits empty.

Great food. Great prices. Also, Ames FIRST Chinese restaurant! They can get pretty busy on weekends. So I would advise going on a weekday.

Good food takes good time. So don‘t expect grease soaked meats and vegetables covered in some generic sauce to come out in 2 seconds like at some restaurants here in town. Come here to get fresh, quality Chinese food at fair prices. You won‘t be disappointed!

I had carry-out from here and tried a variety of things. Overall I found it to be very average. Mostly the food lacked flavor and was disappointing. The only food I really enjoyed was the fried dumplings. I had high hopes based on other reviews, but this is definitely not the best Chinese food in Ames. I don‘t think I would eat here again.

This place is the best! True it has short hours, but they need that time to prepare the food since it is made fresh daily. I had the opportunity to check out the kitchen while they were open and it was awesome. They chop the veggies on a daily basis, make eggrolls daily along with the crab rangoons, wontons and just about everything! Not sure how they find the time to do all this! The kitchen is clean and the cook is very friendly. It takes longer to cook the food because he is the only cook and wants it to be as close to perfect as possible. If you have a problem, ask to talk with the owners. Or leave your name and number, they do call back!

They are the best food in Ames for Chinese! They have moved from this location to a strip mall on Lincoln Way a few blocks East of Duff Ave. Very easy to find. Only problem are they short hours. They are only open for a few hours during lunch and dinner.

I live in Boone and this is the best Chineses restaurant I‘ve found in 2 cities. The food, service and prices cannot be beat!

They serve the best sesame chicken! I eat there all the time. Fresh food made every day and their new location is nice (on E. Lincoln way at the Lincoln Commercial Center strip mall). Great owners!

Best in town. Can take extra time, but it‘s not fast food so what do you expect?

I ate here just a couple days ago. I was served burnt Egg Fu Young. The server was nice but returned from delivering my complaint to the cook with an offer to take one dollar off the price of my meal. I thought this was insulting. I will not eat here again.

I‘ve been going here for years! This place is fantastic, never dissapointed. If the service is slow, its because they make everything fresh. Good things come to those who wait.

Good Chinese food is hard to find in Ames and surprisingly easy to find in Des Moines. This is probably the best in Ames. Service can be slow but staff is friendly. Moo Shu Pork is very good. When we eat Chinese in Ames we usually go here. But could it compete with restrauants in other cities? No, would at best, be considered average. I feel disloyal to the wonderful cook saying this.
