Restaurant - German

Formerly the Viking Restaurant. The restaurant is attached to the Viking Hotel and is on the main drag of Story City about a block and half from I-35. The menu features a wide range of possibilities from steaks to vegetarian items. The main reason to eat here is the page and a half of authentic German items. Favorites include the several variations of Schnitzel, the Sausage plate, and the Koenigsberg meatballs with capers. This is all featured in bright, new clean environment that really has a distinctive German feel for design. Prices are very reasonable considering the portions.

Excellent dining experience. The service was courteous, attentive, and helpful. The food was glorious. I highly recommend the ghoulash, but don‘t expect your mom‘s ghoulash with hamburger, macaroni, and tomato sauce. This ghoulash has tender pieces of pork in a flavor rich sauce that is sweet, smoky, and spicy all at the same time thanks to the paprika. It is served over penne pasta. The salad that comes with the meal is accompanied by a sweet carrot salad. My husband had the sauerbraten. I don‘t know which entree I liked more. We‘ll definitely return to Old Hamburg. Keep up the good work. You have much to be proud of.

We are visiting this Restaurant on a frequent basis and never had a bad experience. The service is courteous and efficient. The food is prepared fresh hence it takes a while as a sign on the door will advise prior to entering. For the people who cant wait and relax there is a Happy Chef and a McDonald adjacent!

My wife and I went to OH on Friday and found the service to be excellent, the food to be above-average, and having a decently diverse German Food menu. I have been to Germany several times and spent several months just South of Hamburg and found the menu to be true to the tastes and menus of Northern Germany restaurants. Although uncertain if spaetzle (sp?) is native to Northern Germany cuisines (although available in most restaurants throughout Germany), it is one side-dish item I wish was on the menu. Further, I know that it would be hard to have several German beers on tap, I do wish there was a greater selection than three types of Warsteiner .... All and all, this restaurant waas a pleasant surprise and largely authentic Northern German restaurant.
