Very, very poor quality of food. I had the sesame chicken yesterday and it tasted like the burned on carbon from the ‘wok‘ it was perhaps cooked in. Worst potstickers I‘ve ever had, must be frozen or something. 888 opened up off North Duff by Dahl‘s, I‘ll be trying that from now on and putting up a review of them. AGAIN I SAY TRY 888 OR ANWHERE ELSE BEFORE YOU BUY FROM THESE GUYS

Large portions of decent quality food. Price ends up about $10-$12 a person including beverage and tip.

In a year, I have gotten warm food once... Beyond the fact that most of the time the food arrives feeling like it hasn‘t even had the courtesy of being microwaved, the food itself is tasteless. The dumplings are mushy, the egg drop soup tastes like bottom shelf chicken noodle (without any of the good stuff), and the lo mein is slimy and; once again; tasteless. This food doesn‘t even deserve the title Americanese! The only reason they stay in business is because they are the only Chinese delivery service late. DON‘T WASTE YOUR MONEY

"Ames‘ finest Chinese delivery service" Uh, yeah. That‘s because they‘re Ames‘ ONLY Chinese delivery service.

Be that as it may, they do deliver, so I‘ve ordered from them occasionally. Don‘t expect hot food. It will get to you luke-warm (even though I only live about 3 blocks away from the restaurant). If you order crab rangoon, they will arrive cold and extremely chewy.

I used to think their sesame chicken wasn‘t too awfully bad. Until I literally got food poisoning from eating it one night. Spent most of that night in the bathroom, cold washcloth pressed to my forehead, and wondering if I really shouldn‘t go to the emergency room.

After that, I was scared to eat their food for a long time. I finally decided, last night, that I really didn‘t feel like cooking, and I wasn‘t in the mood for either pizza, wings, or subs, so I called (about 9:30pm). The phone just rang and rang. Maybe they closed.

I‘ve been going to this place for probably over 4 years- delicious! Their Hot and Sour soup is THE best I‘ve ever had!! Don‘t know whats in there, but its completely different from anywhere else. Great! I‘m salivating on my keyboard.

I love Golden Wok! They have delicious food! Delivery is satisfactory, but I enjoy eating at the restaurant. When you eat in, you get complimentary soup and I am in love with the hot and sour soup. The only complaint I have is that the Sunday buffet food does not taste as good, or fresh as if you had an entree. My favorite dish is the Sesame Chicken. Golden Wok‘s Sesame Chicken is very sweet, but that is exactly what I like about it. I would compare the quality and taste of the food as being similar to Tsing Tsao in Des Moines, if you are familiar with it. Prices are reasonable.

This food is cold and awful. The ingredients are low quality. I know I sound bitter. Its because I am. I ordered from them twice because everyone gets to screw up every now and then right? Don‘t do it. They only stay open because nobody decent delivers (asian food). No.

I‘m a delivery driver. I think the service is great. My favorite dish is Mongolian beef and hot n braised chicken. Mi favorite comida es Mongolian carne y pica calor y agriar pollo. Espero tu visites en mi opinion.

This is the only place that makes it‘s own egg rolls. I work here and consider it to have the best Chinese delivery in town, since no other places in town deliver. I‘m a delivery driver, judge for yourself. My favorite dish is sesame chicken. I hope you find this review helpful.

This was not the best Chinese food that I have ever encountered, but I think it is a safe assumption that I will go back sometime. In my opinion, the orange chicken was delicious and the vegetable spring rolls were also very tasty. I would stay clear of the sesame chicken though, as it was too sweet for my tastes.

The food is great and the servers are very courteous and nice.

Unbelievably awful, how can Chinese take-out, which really is just grease and salt be done poorly. I do not mean like in an ‘oh man let me whine about authenticity‘ but rather that the food is just tasteless and disturbingly mealy. Drunken campus town residents must be the only thing keeping this place open.

When I‘ve dined in the servers have also been very courteous and polite. I‘ve also ordered delivery and golden wok was prompt and the drivers were polite as well. I have tried the hot and sour soup at several different chinese restaurants and this was by far my favorite. while the food can be a little greasy, it was still delicious. I would recommend it

I‘ve had better chineese, but it‘s ready in 5-10 minutes and is about as good as you can get at 3rd and welch. it‘s really not that pricey either. check it out.

Meat is terrible, food overpriced, bland and boring, americanized crap

If you want cockroaches as your main ingredient, this is the place for you. If you want food poisoning, this is again the place for you. If you want chicken, pork or beef, when in reality you will be eating "Fido", this again my friend is the place for you. Enjoy with a big, heaping flow of fried and sweet and sour diarrhea.

Horrible food. If anyone from goldewok is seeing this, please change the chef or close the place. I am sure mixing ingredients and throwing it in a microwave would be better than this. The meat is so raw and uncooked, if there is a way to complain this fellow to the food authorities i would do it. Wait till someone gets seriously ill and closes this place down. I am not being harsh its the reality.

The food here has never been good. But it was okay when you could special order, and they delivered. Now, they have become "strict" (aka treating the customer like poo), and they won‘t make any special orders or honor any other reasonable requests that normal restaurants honor.

Being a Puertorrican, I am privileged in the sense of having been exposed to many different cultures and food, and therefore I can say with certainty that I absolutely despise this place. I have many Chinese friends here on campus whom have showed me real, authentic Chinese food, and it is NOTHING like the food served in places like Panda Express and Golden Wok. It really makes me sad how most North Americans only see this side of Americanized Chinese food, where foods like Sweet and Sour chicken and Orange chicken are the trash they are raised up with.

If you truly want a Chinese and/or Asian experience, go to Thai Kitchen or Little Taipei (and the latter isn‘t 100% authentic either). It makes me depressed when my North American friends go to nice, authentic places and only order Sweet and Sour chicken, when in reality, they‘re only blinding themselves even further from exploring real Asian culture and food.

Avoid this place like the plague, as a previous commenter said.

The only reason this restaurant is still in business is because it is the only chinese delivery option in a college town. Golden Wok has none of the required elements of a good business; food, service, prices, and atmosphere are all wanting. Not only is the quality decidedly sub-par, but watch out for the $1.50 delivery fee (even with an order over $8) not mentioned anywhere in their menus or websites.

If you want ripped off and to suffer from food poisoning go to golden wok.
This is a mentally challenged persons attempt at Chinese cuisine.
A total joke, and you can often see the delivery guys car at may house dining on there ho-hum food. This place often promotes animal cruelty as well. I complained to peta about an offensive ad of theirs involving a swine with a fork stabbing into him and a chat bubble above his head stating to eat there.

I haven‘t eaten their food since I got food poisoning from the Sesame Chicken several years ago. I don‘t know if the chicken wasn‘t cooked thoroughly or if it had just sat out too long, or what. But I was up all night and -- at one point -- seriously thought about calling 911 and asking for an ambulance to take me to the hospital. No, I‘m not kidding. I was that sick.

I just really, really wish Mandarin delivered. Hmmm, maybe I should print these comments out and take them up to the owner of the Mandarin.

Was there for the first time today. After reading the reviews I wanted to try myself. Unfortunately most reviews are correct, the food was tasteless and cold, very disappointing !

I did enjoy their food with my boys, my boys loved and remembered their fried rice, sweet and sour chicken until now.

This isn‘t even real Chinese food. The dishes come with no sauce, and thus there is like no flavor to them. It‘s usually cold, dry, and tasteless. Sure, they deliver, but I would rather have ramen or something than this sorry excuse for Chinese food.

Used to be good, food sometimes cold and bland.

I ordered 2 entrees and received them after an hour and 15 minutes, half an hour longer than when I was told they would be delivered. The food was cold. I asked for spicy, it was not. The food was just in general not good. The sauce tasted like bad water. The chicken was not fresh. I called to see if I could take it back in and get a refund, they don‘t give refunds, even if the food you order is nothing like what they descibed it to be. Finally, after several phone calls to the manager and to the person i placed my order with, they called back and said they would give me store credit for $5. Later it changed to $10. Very unorganized and just not good. If you want good Chinese food, don‘t eat here.

They dropped out of campusfood and now i have no way to easily order food. plus the food sucks. go to cocoast or chc

I wanted to rate this a 0, but that wasn‘t an option...Gross food with no taste and very expensive for the microwaved crap they serve. And I swear on all that is holy, they mess up our order 50% of the time. When we call they just say they will credit us for next time...Um thanks, but we were kind of hungry right now which is why we ordered...We need to get another Chinese delivery--this one is horrid!

Their food is ok, thats all one can say. but they can easily increase the quality of food and service.

I don‘t even want to give this place one star! AVOID GOLDEN WOK AT ALL COSTS. I love asian food and I try to avoid driving so I usually depend on some good delivery. Golden Wok delivers garbage at rip-off prices. Walk to Thai Kitchen or take a bus to House of Chen if you want some good food.

funny story, a friend and I used to work here and we were told to look up websites like these and give a good review. The boss himself knew his food sucked but claimed that most Americans are ignorant enough to taste the difference anyway. Since its the only chinese delivery left in town, it will continue to serve food below quality at prices above average as long as ignorant students still order them.
A little secret: they do not have regulars and they have almost none Ames local customers. Thank god I quit this place as the boss was such a big pervert too.

This place has the best kung poa tofu in Ames! I love the big chunks of fried tofu, and they make is nice and sipcy. Lots of carrots, celery, onions, just like kung poa chicken, only tofu!

Mush shu vegetables are also delicious!!!

I absolutely hate this place. I ordered food from them probably five times, trying to try different things on the menu because I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The food is nasty. Tasteless, cold, and made from low quality ingredients. I wish House of Chen delivered.

it would‘ve been a great place to eat had they answered their fucking phone. However, i called for over an hour with no answer. That is ri-god-damn-diculous. I would hope that other people do not eat here. ANSWER YOUR PHONE!!!

Best Chinese delivery in Ames??? That is sad. The food here is terrible.

I was in there dining in during Veisha on Saturday, they were crazy busy but their staff was very polite, and was there when I needed them. Good pricing and nice staff, I gotta say their orange chicken got me hooked. The restaurant was unsurprisingly clean for a chinese restaurant "sorry" not racist but just saying. Well its not the best chinese I have ever eaten, that would have to be in China Town New York, but that is the best I have had in Ames. DUHHH you are in Iowa

Well I don‘t know what that person was talking about must be a personal grudge, but it was one of the best chinese food I have eaten in campus town. YUMMY I like it.

This is what the summary up top says. Now, I have to wonder what kind of special crack the person who wrote that review was on, because this is bar-none the worst Chinese food I have ever had in my life. During desperate moments when I felt like ordering something and couldn‘t have pizza with my friends (can‘t eat meat, and not much cheese) and I didn‘t feel like a burrito, I ordered from here and prayed that the food wasn‘t horrible.

The only thing I can generally stomach from here is the Hot and Sour Soup and sometimes the egg rolls, but the major disadvantage to ordering any entrees from here is that the cooks are unfamilar with two concepts - "Cooking" and "Flavor". Yes, the ingredients must be cooked BEFORE the dish is served, the vegetables should not be raw, and even when all this is done, the dishes require some form of flavoring unless the Golden Wok intends to cater to a completely anosmic crowd (no sense of smell and hence, no sense of taste). The lo mein tastes horrid, the fried rice is bland, and the rice itself I swear is minute rice. There is a good reason this place has 1 bloody star - it stinks on ice. If ever there is another Chinese place in town that delivers and can at least be rated as "mediocre", then this place will die.

I recently heard they invited some new chef to bring the place up a few notches. I have no idea about what has happened to this place recently, but after having eaten their food four times (the last time in November) I have sworn this hole off. If they ever want to improve their reputation, they‘re going to have to work like the devil.

If Golden Wok serves "so-called" Chinese food, Taco Bell must be the personal caterer to the high and mighty of the world.

Their food sucks. stay away from them. Really. There are other chinese joints in the area which may not offer delivery service but taste a helluva lot better.

The other day I was having a hankering for Golden Wok, so I rifled through my kitchen garbage can and pulled out some old fruit peelings and coffee grounds. Although it wasn‘t quite as bad as Goiden Wok‘s food, I did save five bucks and got about the same nutritional value.

Took 2 hours to get my food. The food was not even warm when it got here. Stay away.

I ordered crap rangoons once and they tasted like CRAB RACOONS. The food is horrible. If you call them for delivery, they make you wait on the phone for 10 minutes and sometimes they don‘t even pick their phone up. They are expensive and their food smells like a skunk.

This place is ridiculous, delivery took 2 freakin hours!!! And after 2 hours they turn up without half of my order! And thats no chinese food, it tasted like crap.

It was alright, but the egg roll tasted like crap and the sesame chicken was just okay...I‘ll stick to Homestyle Chinese from now on

This place is horribly over-priced. I honestly should have called and asked for my money back. The food is bland, bland, bland. I got Crab Rangoon- too small and Kung Pao chicken that was not spicy at all. Traditionally it‘s supposed to burn your damn tongue off. I‘d probably only eat this again if I was drunk and found an open box of this slop on the sidewalk. Save your money.
