Cocost

I don‘t know who thinks they have bigger portions than CHC, but they‘re wrong. I just ordered the teriyaki chicken and it was a pathetic meal for $6. The cabbage was good - I‘ll given them that, but it was buried under the teriyaki sauce and lost most of the flavor. The only thing big about their portions is the rice - if i wanted a box full of rice I would have went to Hyvee and gotten a box of instant rice for a dollar. Will not be returning.

Try avoiding any other meat than chicken. Highly likely that you might fall sick if you keep eating there regularly.

Cocost has poor service and food. I have consistently been given the incorrect order. Once, my friend received the wrong order and the worker took her barely eaten plate from her and delivered it to another customer who had ordered that dish. That was really weird and gross.
The restaurant seems kinda sketchy, and the food is greasy and not very flavorful. It doesn‘t taste like any other Chinese food I‘ve had before. It‘s filling but not tasty.

Most of their stuff is pretty generic but the sesame chicken is really kickass. Yeah the one guy is pretty rude, but the portions are bigger than CHC or Panda.

It smells awful inside the restaurant. It doesn‘t seem very clean either. It may be inexpensive but the food is terrible. The chicken lo mein was like spaghetti, and I‘m not even sure it was actual chicken either. Not a good experience, I will not be returning.

Very good... Try the Jin Jiang chicken! Also the Orange Chicken is very good... and the spicy sauce is great (you have to ask for it separately)

Chicken Chop, Hot Braised Chicken, and Teriyaki Chicken are all very good and low priced.

Last time we went there, the guy at the counter was harsh and rude, and when he brought the food out he snorted snot out of the back of his throat and then swallowed it and wiped his nose on his sleeve before handing us our plate. We couldn‘t help but leave without ever touching the food - what a waste of time and money.

Ate here on a Wednesday for lunch. It wasn‘t noticeably dirty. Service was fast. Food was average. It was a good price.

Cocost is hands down, the best Chinese restaurant in Ames. The chicken chop, the hot braised chicken, and the spicy orange chicken are some of the finest cuisine in the area. EAT HERE!!

I love the teryaki beef. It is always so good and so cheap! The atmosphere is awesome too. Christmas decorations year round are hard to beat. This place is the best.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Orange Chicken! I faithfully order take out from Cocost at least once a week. Great food, Great Service, and Affordable Eating... what more could you ask for? Not to mention the yummy "spicy sauce"

$5 for a full plate of food and 50 cents if you want a drink with it, full plate doesn‘t take long to get there how can you complain about cheap, fast, good chinese food

I like the way this place operates. The menu‘s on the wall. You order your food off of it and hand the cashier $5; the tax is factored into the price. Then you sit down and your food comes to you within two or three minutes, tops. Having already paid, you get up and leave once you‘re done.

The food is consistently good, not great. It‘s a steal for $5, but it‘s not as good as The Spice. But while dishes at The Spice are usually a wee bit too small, the portions at Cocost are huge. I cleaned my plate the first time I ate here and felt queasy for an hour - don‘t overdo it.

I‘m a regular with a big appetite for cheap food. Honestly it is best to go with a regular who can give you some pointers ahead of time. For those of you familiar with Seinfeld episode "The Soup Nazi" you‘ll understand what I mean when I say don‘t anger the old man. If you stay on his good side you‘ll have as good of a $4 dining experience as you can have for $4.

My family and I eat here often and are always impressed with the quality of the food and the extremely friendly service. The portions are huge and we usually have leftovers. As a matter of fact, we‘re on our way there now!

I LOVE COCOAST! its fast and tastes wonderful

I went there with my mom while we were apartment shopping. She got the Happy Family which wasn‘t too bad, especially since it cost only $5. But I got the beef and mushrooms, it came out looking weird, with white sauce (everywhere else I‘ve ever gone had brown sauce on it). But I forgave that, because everybody‘s got their own recipe, right? So I tasted it and it was disgusting. They use canned mushrooms, so there would be a little bit of a weird taste, but the metal flavor was overpowering. It was like they boiled the tin can from the mushrooms, in with the sauce. It‘s inexcusable even for a $5 meal. So I took it back up, and the guy refused to give me a refund. His excuse? "Lot of people order today, nobody complain." So what I got from the broken English was, whether it was bad or not, because nobody else took the time to ask for their money back, I couldn‘t get my money back. On top of that, they‘ve got soda "on tap" and yet it was flat. Who hooks their machine up to flat soda water?

I‘ve never heard someone say they would eat here a second time in person. Everyone I know had bugs in their food or got sick from it.
Sure they are cheap but whats the point of a $5 meal if you‘re going to be regretting it for 3 days afterwards?!?

Cocost is the cheapest Chinese food in town. most plates are $5 even and they are SO FAST. carry out is convenient and for the price, you can‘t find anything better. I love the Sesame Chicken!!!

Best place in Ames by far. Gotta try the LO MEIN!!!!!!!

This place is so good. hot and braised chicken is the way to go! and its only 5 dollars, makes things easy when your a drunk isu student.

Great place!! 5 dollars and for me a full meal and some to take with me for later!! I love this resturant. The year round x-mas decorations are a bit strange for a chinese place....but the food makes up for that!!! Try the Vegeatble lo mein, super good.

I‘m from out of town, and everytime I come to Ames it always includes a trip to Cocost. 5 bucks for a plate of food is incredible! You can‘t be Cocost for chinese! It‘s the best place hands down!

I used to love this place. But lately the quality has been very poor. The servings are smaller and when I eat sweet and sour chicken there is barely any sauce on it. The chicken tastes like it has been sitting under a lamp. I used to love them but now I am leaving them.

My fiance loves this place but every time I‘ve eaten here, I felt sick afterward. We were there last winter & they didn‘t even have the heat turned on so it was freezing.
