Worst brewery I have ever been too. The atmosphere has the potential, but that is about all that this establishment has going for it. Food is boring, drinks are awful, and the service is so bad it makes this former server not even want to tip. Save your money and your time and go anywhere else in town. Olde Main, you could have an awesome niche in this town. We are sorely lacking a cool place to hang and have a few good beers and food in the downtown area. For now, I will drink at the London Underground and bring my own food. Thumbs down.

I have seen an overall decline at Olde Main over the past 6 months or so, but I still frequent the establishment often. The beer is still great, the menu is great, but the service has declined. Having experience in the industry, I do understand that the building is huge, so service can be spotty. However, since the building is so large, you must expect that service will have some misses due to the distance traveled from kitchen to table and bar to table (anybody with any common sense can see this). Nobody can argue that point, so give the servers and bartenders credit where credit is due... they work their butts off at Olde Main. They probably walk more miles in one day at that place than you do in a week.

I believe Olde Main started going downhill when a member of management left a few months ago. His name was Mike and he knew us personally and always graciously treated us with a smile every time we entered the building. He had great rapport with his guests and employees and really ran the place good. Any time there was a problem he corrected it immediately. Olde Main should never have let him leave as he was a very beneficial asset to the company, and since his departure, the company has suffered.

I‘m a regular at Old Main. Their beer has gotten better over the years. I agree with the past reviews that the restaurant service has declined. We went to eat with friends on $1 pint night. We got told by 2 different waitresses that we would have to leave our seating if we weren‘t going to order a meal. My friend (part of out party) got beers and someone from the bar brought up water for us. We tipped him well. on the other side of the upstairs seating there was a group who sat for the entire time with lit candles and no harassment. You have got to be kidding me. I guess I‘ll wait till my hair turns gray to order again.

Perhaps my expectations are too high. The atmosphere has great potential, but their product leaves a lot to be desired. Olde Main‘s craft beers are some of the worst brewpub varieties I‘ve had. The menu is somewhat creative, but the quality of food was an overpriced disappointment. They continue to thrive only because it is a novelty in Ames. I hope the owners and brewmasters step up their quality to really become something great.

Wednesday night $1 pint nights are busy with a young, energetic crowd while college is in session, and the price is about right for the quality of beer.
