Restaurant - Breakfast

Perkins is Perkins, but the Ames Perkins is more than just a restaurant. Its where drunk people magically appear after the bars close and they need a place to eat stacks of pancakes until 5am. If you have never made a 4am trip to Perkins then you are missing out.

Perkins. It‘s the old persons choice to go. And the young persons place to sober up. I don‘t love the food at perkins. but its where to go after the bars and after the football games. The staff is normal. I did have a great experience with a waiter there though. He was very unique and personable. Made my meal a lot better. When a waiter can pull off being sarcastic and almost rude to me, and still make me like him? Wow. The food is always constant. Good to eat when you need to recover. Chicken tender melts are great. And being able to get almost anything subbed out for another side(except eggs. Darn it I hate eggs.) is great. Never had a bad experience here, but I wouldn‘t go eat there when I want Great food.

Perkin‘s is great because you can get real food at all hours of the night. Typically the service there is fine, and the food is decent as long as you stay away from the fish. The mac and cheese is awesome.

TERRIBLE! This Perkin‘s in Ames, Iowa gives a bad name to the franchise! I have never been so frustrated and disappointed in a restaurant in my entire life. Extremely piss poor service. Each server we‘ve had has been no better than the last. Absolutely would never recommend this restaurant.

Never go to Perkins for the food, except for old people in the day. Go between 1 and 5 in the morning for coffee to keep you going as you cram for exams. Pancakes are decent, but again, you don‘t go for the food.

Everytime I go back to this place it gets worse. I‘d almost rather starve than eat here, but after a long day if you haven‘t eaten anything would taste good. Or so you would think. The food, in general, is disgusting. There have been a few times when I didn‘t feel like I was gonna vomit afterwards, but not too often. We‘ve had problems with pretty much the entire staff, and management is no better. My advice if you‘re hungry and its 1 in the morning....drive to Ankeny and eat at IHOP...at least there the coffee is warm.
