Cafe Beaudelaire

Nestled right next to the Iowa State University campus Cafe B adds a wonderful and distinctive international flavor to the campus environment. Students of all nationalities frequent the small dive to watch their favorite soccer matches or just enjoy the atmosphere. The food is excellent and the Long Island Ice Teas are legendary.

Best Gyro in town. I love this place!! Iron Vegetarian is so good, and I am not a vegetarian. Prices are very reasonable as well.

Food excellent! Love the burger with the fried egg. Service is inconsistent, but passable. They need to work on their Caprihanas. A little skimpy for the $$.

I usually come here for the burger and fries. They do a good medium rare burger, which is hard to get right here in town. The rest of the menu is great, too, but I every time I sit down, I can‘t help but order another burger.

I‘m rating this as a bar....not a restaurant. The food is good, but the bar atmosphere is awful. It is over crowded, too loud, too expensive and uncomfortable. I thought this was supposed to be a bar that had good character and culture in Campustown, but when I can‘t hear the person standing next to me or move it is just like every other run-down party bar in this district.

I am not a burger connoisseur by any means, but I had the Border Burger here and it was simply The. Best. Burger. I‘ve. Had. In. My. Life. Hands down. Service is good and friendly. It‘s a little pricey, but for the best burger in town I‘ll glad shell out a tenner.

The food is horrendously over salted and I mean to the point where I stopped eating my hamburger because it felt like I was eating salt straight out of the shaker. The drinks however were great.

Love their food and is a fun place to have a few beers. I am addicted to their Brasilian Fries. Their employees are always very professional and helpful too.

The staff here is very nice and the food is amazing! Much better then your average chain place.

This place is entirely too expensive. A glorified veggie burger costs nearly $12 with fries. The fries were $1.95 extra, and I counted in all, 8. Now, I do not need a trough of fries for my money, but when lunch costs over $15 with a drink, I think we need to save our money, and seek other sustenance.

Where are J and VJ these days?? When will the web site they started for this place ever be finished and running? Why did Claudio hire these two clowns?? Who is Omar anyways?? I need a caiparinha, ayyyy caramba!!

Good selection of beer. Food lacks Brazilian flare.

Great atmosphere, like everyone says, something different than the standard campustown crowd. Great staff, great music, great dancing on weekends, very chill during the week. Want to be able to have a conversation without a bunch of loud, drunken fools? Cafe B is your best option.

The food is pretty delicious too.

Every time I watch Diners Drive Ins and Dives, with Guy Fieri on Food Network, I think they should feature Café Beaudelaire. The food is fabulous and the environment is welcoming to all.
After 5 years away, I still miss hanging out at Beaudelaire, having plate of Iron Vegetarian and a Strawberry Banana Vitamin.
Shout out to all the Beaudelaire crowd, especially Jay and VJ.

Good place to go if you don‘t want the loud ruckus of most bars. The ambiance is pretty chill...good place to just sit and drink and chat with your friends. Kinda expensive drinks though compared to other Campustown bars.

Cafe Beaudelaire is a great place to stop in-between classes for a bite to eat. The atmosphere on weekends is great, and the whole staff is very friendly. The only way to really understand the atmosphere is to stop in and see for yourself.

The food is consistently amazing, the whole wait staff is friendly and thorough. The bartender on Friday nights is really hot and makes really good drinks. I go there just to see him.

Love Beaudelaire! It‘s my fave place to be on Friday or Saturday nights. Great drinks, great music, and great staff (Shoutout to J!). It‘s not the typical college crowd, which pretty much is the icing on the cake for how much I love the place. It‘s gotten more crowded over the years, which I don‘t like as much, but what can you do? I‘m just happy they‘re doing so well

Best bar in Ames hands down. This is probably the only thing I will miss after I move away from Ames. Great staff, food and drinks. Won‘t ever leave disappointed.

The service isn‘t totally amazing, but the food is. They have a different flavor than the typical bar food which is nice. It‘s a little messy to eat, but not totally greasy. The burgers are great, lots of vegetables on top, they have a different take on typical bar food which is interesting and delicious at the same time.

Love this bar! I also worked here and also meet the love of my life in this fine place. Great food, great people, and great fun! Can‘t wait to come back and visit it for the holidays.

I also used to work there and used to eat there everyday! I make gyros at home, empanadas, the old chicken pitas etc... Yum, yum, yum. I‘ve driven from DSM to get a chicken baurou. Don‘t even get me started about what I asked my husband to do when I was pregnant... thankfully, he got me my weekly fix of CAFE! I also loved the iron veggie with lamb. Of course it was great service, fun atmosphere, and cool people to talk to.

It‘s not a high end restaurant but it has great food! I have craved both the baurou AND THE GYRO NON-STOP since I left Ames a few years ago. Lucky for me, I used to work there and know how to make them at home. YUMMMM is all I have to say.

Always a good place to start the night. Not typically a great place to hang out for an extended period of time though. It‘s pretty laid back and a bit of an older crowd. Lots of people studying and reading. BEST long islands I have ever had.

Unique food, atmosphere, and clients. Great combination. The food is interesting enough to keep to coming back until you try it all. And the fruit smoothies offer several interesting combinations I would have never thought of trying.

It‘s great! To eat, I‘d recommend the Spanish burger - comes with a fried egg! To drink, try a pisco sour - delicious and Peruvian!

My girlfriend and I recently grabbed lunch at Cafe Beaudelaire and loved it. Truly unique menu items, a clean environment and friendly staff. We are sure to become regulars.

The food is great and the service too. At night is the best bar you can go I love the caipirinha. Try it!!!

Wow...I miss this place! One of my favorite spots in the U.S.

I miss this place SOOO much. I used to hang out at Beaudelaire ALL THE TIME in the early 90‘s while I was at Iowa State. The food, drinks, service and atmosphere are all outstanding and one of a kind! I don‘t know if they still have the Bauru sandwiches, but they are to die for! They also invented an awesome shot called a "Nightmare."

This place is sort of a "diamond in the rough". It‘s right in campustown yet many people haven‘t been there. The only way to find out if you like it... go there! Try some Brazilian food and get a drink (long islands are highly recommended, as well as potent!).

I love this place. Great food and service. It has something that alot of places in Ames are missing. Do experience it for yourself.

I like this place. Good atmostphere. But I get out before they get the ashtrays out! Once people start smoking, there is nowhere to hide. So I recommend this place before 8pm! Otherwise try Brewer‘s, a non-smoking bar in Somerset.

Obviously the long islands rock your socks off. The food is better than average there as well. The bar is laid back and you don‘t find you typical idiot wasted college students there. Good bar in my opinion.

This is just a great place to go. The best night is Sat for the long islands. Good times will be had by all.

My friends and I always go here because they have the BEST long island ice teas in the world!! They are big and a couple of them will get you drunk fast! Cool place!

First time there, I Had an Overpriced lukewarm latte (12oz for $2.94) unfortunately didn‘t have time to return for an exchange. Perhaps better luck the second time around. -AP Mojeaux

A unique Ames dining experience - great Brazilian food! Beaudelaire is perhaps best known for their Long Islands, but it‘s food is one of the best kept secrets in Ames. Try it out for yourself - it‘s a great "date night" location!

My favorite place in Ames throughout five years of school. Excellent service, drinks, food, and company. Some of the best dancing in Ames on the weekends. Awesome collection of foreign currencies as well, worth checking out if you‘re a traveler. Perhaps you could even contribute.....

One of my favorite places in Ames. They are small and cosy. They have a good selection of vegetarian options. My favorite (non veg option) is the Origonal Bauro (?spelling) Sandwhich. It‘s really tasty. On the weekend nights, Cafe Beaudelaire changes into a bar scene, just something to keep in mind. Also they allow smoking at the bar, the bar is about 10 feet from every table. So if smoke can ruin your meal beware.

The new menu items are great! You should definitely try these out.Also, it looks like they reduced their drink prices a bit, making it more affordable with the same friendly service.

I eat here at least once per week, the food is consistently good, it‘s inexpensive even with gratuity included, and I‘ve always gotten friendly service. The new menu items are great too! The only thing I don‘t care for is the smoking. DEFINITELY GO THERE

If you like the long islands (best in town or best ever, rather) try a long beach. Look out for Saturday night long island specials (8pm - 11 pm).

They just added a lot of new authentic entrees that are all good and deserve a try.

I have seen and heard of the owner (the crazy looking old guy) yell at several customers when they asked for additional items or complained about service. NEVER GO THERE

This bar is for people who are friendly, open, and fun. It‘s a very connected environment - everybody is friends with everybody, which makes it awesome. The food is great. The people are great. The long islands are amazing.

Tuesday nights are $2.75 caipirinhas, which are phenomenal considering no one else in town knows how to make them, let alone what they are.

Very eclectic and gourmet selection of food. Great indoor/outdoor seating with awesome service. Don‘t forget to try out Brazilian alcoholic drinks as well..

Always a nice atmosphere, good place to chill.
