Drinks are ok, service is super slow, environment is pretty good. But the thing that I absolutely despise about this place is the bathrooms, Im not sure about the men‘s but the women‘s is DISGUSTING. There is always a super long line, no toilet paper, no paper towel or soap, and ALWAYS three or more drunk obnoxious chicks standing in the middle of your way to get to the stalls which dont even close. COME ON, they have to make a decent amount for what they charge for drinks, so upgrade the bathrooms PLEASE so I dont worry about catching a disease whenever I pee. I go so far as to walk to Mickey‘s just so I can pee in a decent place. Yuck.

Sausage fest. Better off taking a road trip to Iowa City, Cedar Falls or Des Moines.

I had such a good time there! Great people, great staff, a dance floor and pool tables...come on...what more do you need??? Oh and the price was right!!

Just waking into this place it looks very dirty like they havent cleaned it in forever. Then when you go to the bar to get a drink it takes the bartenders forever to serve people, and when you do get served the prices are ridiculously expensive. I will not go back to this place ever.

It takes forever to get a drink even on a average night, and the staff isnt even one bit personable. I dont know what happened to the fun old staff, I would go elsewhere. Also Same old music too, if you want to hear a good DJ go to Element, and look for events from DJ Diverse or other traveling DJ‘s not just your push button week in and week out DJ.

Bartender lied through his teeth and kept my mug and $3 after I left it with him to fetch an extra $1 on mug night; he said I never paid for the mug nor gave him $3. Cocky with douchebag-esque qualities. Go somewhere else for honest business.

this bar was pretty cool untill they got a new manager it was going the right way not as thugish as before but then brandon boetcherr became manager and now it down hill i wont go to sips again untill brandon is no longer there

Really suprised this bar is still open. Seems like a bad soap opera whenever i go in. Cops giving tickets. People fighting. Girls Cryings. THUGS EVERYWHERE. I think the manager used to work at McDonalds!

Sips is now the hottest club in Ames once again. After the remodel nobody can beat this place. By far it has the best DJ I
think his name is JR (Dj Universoul) who can mix like no other.
Great top 40, techno and rock with a little hip hop thrown in. the whole atmosphere has changed and it is definitely for the better. Great place to party with your friends and dance your ass off. Wait till you see all the flat screens. Can‘t wait to go tonight. Keep it up Sips.

This bar has really changed. If you have not checked it out since their remodel you have to be there. I was there last friday and it was awesome, they had a live band and a dj. It was really cool. They dont play anymore hardcore hip hop any more but still have a sweet dance floor and quality top 40‘s music.

Loved this weekend. Hope more are to come. The place looks great and the crowd is awesome.

This place is nasty! They never have any liquor or beer, it‘s always out!! Probably because they give it away every weekend. You have to wait forever to get a drink, unless you know the bartender or are a guy, since all the bartenders were guys. (Which you think would be totally opposite...but whatever) The bathrooms are worse then a state fair porta-potty... dirty, no toilet paper, just gross!! And the dance floor, i feel like the cieling is going to collapse anyday. That place just creeps me out and is dirty. No thanks.

Best place to be in Ames on Friday nights during the summer. Its packed and they have and awsome 1-2-3 special. $1 Draws, $2 Wells and $3 Bombs or something like that. Also lots of bangin girls

This is the best place to come and dance. However, there are a lot of d-bags in this bar, like the poster from February 23 commenting on the appearance of the bartenders.

Wow, this is just in response to the previous review about unattractive staff. How shallow and immature can you be? How about judging a bartender for how well they make a drink or speed of service? I have only been in this bar a few times, don‘t remember what the wait staff looks like but just felt like I had to respond to the previous post.
I don‘t go out very often in Ames and think most of the bars in town are kind of dirty and full of drunk college kids, still, I would never go so far as to give a low rating because "I" think the bartender isn‘t attractive enough. Whoever wrote that review should be ashamed of themselves and needs to grow up, even though I think they were actually trying to be genuinely helpful.

i reccommend getting some new younger staff. i just turned 21 and do not think there are very attractive people working there. I like to tip and i like the music that is played. Maybe get a few new bartenders and I guarantee people will be waiting to get in and join the fun

This maybe campuses best kept secret right now. They play a ton of great music to get people dancing. They have done away with the Door Cover for the past couple of weekends I have stopped in and have had GREAT drink specials early on in the night. If you wanna drink cheap and have fun, this is the place.

Wow! This place has really changed! The mouthy DJ who played crap music and ran his mouth constantly about nothing is gone. The place doesn‘t seem like i have to wear a bulletproof vest when i walk in, and it doesn‘t smell like rotting puke when i walk in! I have to say, i am impressed! I really like the new image sips is trying to portray. I really hope it gets busy again soon! Keep up the great work!

This place has really turned itself around! The atmosphere has all but rid itself of the scary image. Sips is definately on the come back!

it doesnt smell like a foot anymore. i was impressed with that. first time ive been in in a long time and they havent been out of the VERY BASIC bud light.

Under new management!! Out with the old ‘ghetto thug life‘ in with the new ‘fun times bar.‘ Still the same old concept, just not thug and ghetto. If you have not stopped into see the changes you dont know what your missing.

I came to sips a few months back a couple of times and was turned off by the overwhelming amount of football players humping ugly chicks like dogs on the dance floor.

A friend basically drug me in again last week. Maybe I was a little hard on the place. The music wasn‘t as ghetto, and the crowd seemed to be a lot less intense. Maybe I picked a bad week a couple of months ago. Maybe it changed. Maybe the football team is finally ashamed to show their pathetic faces (because they cant win a game.) Either way, I‘m going to stop avoiding sips again, and possibly even throw it back on my route to get wasted every weekend

Not as bad as I expected. The atmosphere is getting much better and I like the service. It wasn‘t packed but they appeared to have a few people standing around that could work if more customers came in. Keep up the good work I‘ll definitely be back on Wednesdays!

Last night the doorman took my friends ID rudely and then after she verified that it was hers he called her a F***ing B***h!!! It was our first time there we didn‘t even get in the door and we will NEVER go back!!! Trust us we are telling ALL of our friends.

i dont go there because the jocks go there. and if you need to hang out at sips to pick up a chick(or dude) at 2 AM (which speaks highly of your standards), dont forget to pack full body condoms so you wont catch something from one of those gorgeous 2AM girls, or boys whichever you prefer.

Sips is the place where all the "it" people hang out. You are sure to find the best looking woman in Ames and most athletes agree sips is the place. Though, if you can‘t hold at beat...it‘s not worth coming. Sips is the best music and dance floor in Ames and your sure to find a good looking person of the opposite sex by the time 2 a.m. rolls around.

This place has gone WAY downhill. What happened to the bar that used to be the best in Campustown? I‘m sorry, but i too, will pass. The DJ‘s on Friday and Saturday are disrespectful, mouthy and NOT all that they think they are. The only thing that‘s good about this place is the service is better then most places in campustown. I still refuse to go back, way too scary.

I turned 21 recently and tried sips out. The DJ was very impressive, quarter draws and wells on wednesday were awesome, and the bartenders were great. The place was packed! Even though it took a few minutes to get a drink, i had a great time with the music and crowd.

This place is serioulsy bad ass. Come out and get hammered in a great environmetn for a good price.

Sips is the best place to go on Friday/Saturday nights ... it is always very crowded the later it gets and the bartenders are amazing!!!! X is the best bartender/manager that Ames has, and Grindberg and Kieman are awesome bartenders too! Make sure to ask for a Bacardi Party or if you want shots, ask for a Kieman Semen! Sips definitley has the most creative drinks on Welch!!!
