Bali Satay House

The first time I went to Bali, I got a long island and it was probably the greatest long island I have ever had (and it should have been for the price). I had nothing to complain about. The last time I was there, there were two bartenders. One was very kind and the other was probably the biggest asshole that I have ever met in my life. He definitely didn‘t put an ounce of liquor in my rum and coke, and then he yelled at my friend for saying something about it. Ending it by saying, "I need your money because I can‘t serve anyone else at the bar until you give me $5." This guy knows nothing about customer service and it‘s staff like this that run people out faster than you can say goodbye. I know that his attitude alone makes me never want to go back.

Has a history of treating bands poorly, and there‘s been staff turnover because of it.

This place as the best, most authentic indonesian food. It‘s delicious! And such good prices. I wouldn‘t really recommend much of the chinese food on the menu. It‘s fine, but it‘s pretty ordinary stuff you could get at any chinese restaurant. But the indonesian food is awesome! Try the curry.

I went to this place last year and was not impressed too much. But I went there again last Wednesday and had one of the best times in Ames in my 6 years being here. The music they plaid was awesome. If you like techno/trance/dance whatever you call it, you should be there on Wednesday nights.

I like to go anywhere that has good local bands. I went there this summer and saw Agony of Defeat, they had a great sound and really rocked. Theres good atmosphere there too.

hip hop nights are awesome here!! :) place is usually packed out and the music and atmosphere is sweet!

Have been there several times in the past month. Drinks are reasonable, food is great and a new local band, Bombardier, were a refreshing change with an awesome sound. Check ‘em out! There is a cover charge, but it‘s always a fun night.

How is this moderately expensive? There‘s nothing on the menu that‘s under $10, and the Indonesian food is awesome! I can‘t stay away for very long.

Very good food, especially the Indonesian stuff. Wait staff is generally friendly, but usually slow. You don‘t want to eat here if you only have an hour for lunch or dinner. When busy, the wait can get pretty bad.

I‘ve eaten there once and the food was good to excellent.

On the other hand, if you are a/in a band you definitely do not want to book at the Bali. The management is terrible.

What a nice place. Clean, stylish, drink prices aren‘t unreasonable. I was pleasantly surprised. I do think it‘s kinda stupid to charge cover for an open mic night, but hey, that‘s just me.

I love the food, and the servers are friendly. The indonesian food is excellent and there chinese menu is the best in campus town.

This is the best food in Ames! If you haven‘t tried it you are missing out! It‘s definitely one of Ames best kept secrets.

Excellent food every time, and people who know their stuff and clearly care about their customers. And spicy actually means spicy.

My family is from Indonesia, and the food definitely is just as good as grandma‘s.

Best Asian food and pizza in town- Iwan is a culinary genius. Their crust is amazing. Lomein is even more amazing. Sound and bands keep getting better as well.

The only sound system in Central Iowa that can induce vomiting. I mean "cheap" is one thing but this is a joke.

I have been there on amateur night, and I think it is really fun to hear the ‘coming out‘ bands if you will. The atmosphere is small and quaint, but that is the way us small-town girls like it :)

I‘m surprised this is listed as a "moderately expensive" restaurant. Wonderful Indonesian dishes, most under $7 and off-the-charts with flavor. That‘s a bargain.

This has to be one of the worst places I‘ve seen a concert. It‘s way too small and the sound jumps all over the room.
